  Nottingham

The county town of Nottinghamshire in central England, Nottingham lies on the River Trent. Its castle was the headquarters of Richard III before the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 and the standard of Charles I was raised here at the outset of the Civil War in 1642. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was born in Nottingham in 1829.
