Orrest Head
Orrest Head is a viewpoint made popular by the poet William Wordsworth. It was also popular with Victorian day-trippers from the industrial towns of Lancashire because it was within very easy reach of Windermere railway station (and still is to this day).

Penrith Beacon
Penrith Beacon is a monument built in 1719, situated upon Beacon Fell. The location has been used as a point where beacons have been lit since the time of Henry VIII.

Penrith Castle
Penrith Castle and the very attractive Castle Park stand opposite and high above the town’s railway station. The original tower of the Castle was built by Bishop Strickland between 1397 and 1399 and was then greatly enlarged and improved by Ralph Neville, Earl of Westmorland.

Platty+ Watersports
A family-run water sports centre based on the scenic banks of Derwentwater. We offer a range of high quality tuition or hire in canoes, kayaks, sailing boats or our dragon boat. We can cater for everyone including individuals, groups and people with special needs and families with young children. B.C.U.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway
The most beautiful train journey in England. Situated in the English Lake District this 15 Narrow Gauge Railway carries passengers from the old Roman Port of Ravenglass seven miles along the Eskdale Valley to Eskdale (Dalegarth) with a journey time of 40 minutes from Ravenglass to Eskdale.

Ravenglass Roman Bath House
The impressive remains of the Roman bath house at Ravenglass are among the most complete in Britain. Ravenglass was an important strategic port and naval base for the Romans.

Red Screes
Red Screes looms high above the Kirkstone Inn, the highest pub in England. An ascent of this hill can be tackled either from Brotherswater and Hartsop, or from the Grasmere, Rydal and Ambleside region.

Rossett Pike
The distinctive profile of Rossett Pike is a familiar landmark that stands, sentry-like, overlooking the steep, winding pull-up to the Scafells on the old packhorse route beside Rossett Gill. Although rarely climbed in its own right, Rossett Pike is well worth a visit for the spectacular views back down into Langdale.

Ruskin Museum
Be inspired by the life-changing political philosophy of John Ruskin, breathtaking artist critic and social reformer. Marvel at the oustanding courage of the water speed ace, Donald Campbell, racing over Coniston in Bluebird. And learn about slate, copper, walls, wool and linen - all important to this region..

Rydal Mount and Gardens
Rydal Mount was the home of Wordsworth for 37 years where he wrote and revised many of his poems including the world famous Daffodils and became Poet Laureate to Queen Victoria. The house & gardens are situated in the picturesque village of Rydal described by Dr.
