Cornwall
Cornwall is a county in the south-west extremity of England, bounded
by Devon, the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. Long stretches
of the coast are owned by the National Trust or are otherwise protected
from commercial development. High winds and sea mists are common,
and rainfall is heavy, especially on high ground. Temperatures are
warm in summer and relatively mild in winter. Tourism provides a
major source of income for the county, capitalizing on the attractive
physical environment. Many small fishing ports such as St. Ives,
Newquay and Polperro serve as popular tourist resorts. Cornwall
is also a favourite county for second homes and retirement.
St Ives has a magical quality making visitors return again and again.
No longer just a summer destination, the town is now full of life
all year round. It's a special place for art lovers, housing a host
of talented artists and galleries not to mention it's very own Tate,
and is also very popular with walkers of all ages. Other highlights
of St Ives include the September Festival which celebrates all aspects
of entertainment from jazz and blues to poetry and street jugglers!
It has also been voted one of the top 3 places in the UK to spend
New Year!
