Durham
A county of north-east England between the Pennines and the North
Sea. Covering an area of 2,434 square kilometres, Durham is a county
of moors and rivers, and is renowned for its fascinating heritage
and magnificent scenery. The city of Durham has a splendid cathedral,
situated by the River Wear. To the west of the historic city of
Durham is beautiful scenery, with stunning Pennine valleys and spectacular
waterfalls. Nearby Barnard Castle is a pretty little town, well
worth a visit, and littered with cobble stone roads and a market
place, and overlooked by the ruins of a Norman castle.
