England
England is part of both Great Britain and the United Kingdom.
It covers a total area of 130,478 square kilometres and its capital
is London. The north is dominated by upland regions such as the
mountains of Cumbria, the Pennines (stretching south to the Peak
District) and the Cheviot Hills. The south is characterised by a
less rugged landscape. England has a mild temperate climate with
the highest rainfall in the west. In winter, average temperatures
are higher in the south and west while in summer, the warmest weather
is to be found in southern and inland regions.
