Rutland
Rutland, England's smallest county with only two towns and over fifty
villages, regained county status in April 1997 after being a district
of Leicestershire since the mid-1970s. The county boasts a number
of tourist attractions including; Rutland Water, offering sailing,
fishing, cycling, watersports and many other outdoor activities; historic
buildings, market towns and picturesque villages; Geoff Hamilton's
Gardens at Barnsdale; major events including the Royal International
Air Tattoo, British Birdwatching Fair and nearby Burghley Horse Trials.
The county is central for most outdoor sports, activities and historic
houses and gardens.
